Do you take insurance?
One of the first questions I get is "Do you take insurance?" and the answer is I do not.
I am considered an out of network provider. Many insurance policies may reimburse for out-of-network providers but this is usually only after a deductible has been met. Check with your insurance provider directly to understand your specific coverage.
The information that you will want to learn from your insurance company is:
Do I have out of network coverage for mental health benefits?
What is my deductible amount?
What is my reimbursement rate?
How many sessions per calendar year does my plan cover?
Is there a limit on how much my provider will pay per session?
Is approval from my primary care physician required?
If you wish to invite your managed care company into our therapeutic relationship and would like me to provide you with an invoice (a Superbill) with the required information needed for you to submit to your provider for reimbursement, then I will do so at the end of every month. But know, you will be responsible for payment at the time of service and your provider will not process your claim without a diagnosis of a mental disorder.
Why don’t you accept insurance?
I feel it's important for my clients to get the most effective counseling and also to have full privacy throughout the therapeutic process. By providing private payment, you will have full privacy since I am not obligated to provide your insurance company with sensitive information about you or our counseling sessions. Also, managed care companies often dictate the number of sessions allowed and I feel that should be a decision you and I make together.
Insurance benefits can only be used to treat an illness; therefore, a diagnosis of a mental health disorder is required and that becomes part of your permanent medical record. In some cases, a mental health diagnosis is already had or one may be necessary; however, in many other cases, it is not relevant nor necessary.
That being said, the majority of my clients are struggling in their marriage or their need for change, not with mental illness. They need support to explore changes they want in their relationships and themselves. These clients just want to learn new strategies and obtain tools that help them make the desired changes in their life and these cases are not something that qualifies as "medically necessary" under a health insurance plan. Insurance does not cover marriage-related issues nor do they cover self-improvement.
To conclude, I want to work for YOU, not managed care. I believe there is value in seeing a therapist that you chose on factors beyond insurance plan participation.
Do you have more questions? Please feel free to contact me.
Are there other types of payment you take?
Yes, I can receive payment through your employer two ways: HSA/FSA or EAP.
If your employer offers a Flexible Savings Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA) I can take that as payment. Like with insurance, I can provide you with an invoice (a Superbill) at the end of each month that you can submit to receive potential reimbursement (check with your employer for the specifics of your plan).
I am contracted with ENI as a counselor. If your company offers an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through ENI, you can call the Care Team @ 800-327-2255 to request me as your counselor. Your company has a specific number of counseling sessions allocated as a part of their benefits. Please note, in person sessions are 50 minutes and telehealth/phone sessions are 30 minutes per ENI’s policy.
What is your Cancellation fee/No Show policy?
I have a 24 hour notice cancellation policy. Cancellations require a 24 hours notice. I will have to charge you for the full session fee if a cancellation is made within 24 hours of your scheduled session or you do not show.
Where are you located?
I am located at 1794 Penfield Road, upper level, Penfield NY 14526. My office is in a white church like building with a side entrace that has a black awning on the door. I am next door to Dunkin Donuts, in front of Chick Magnet and across the street from Joey’s Pasta House. You can park in the spots next to the side entrance, those are for all buildings in that vacinity, along with the spots in the back parking lot. (Please see map on Contact Me page)
